National Industrial Symbiosis Programme

1 April 2009

I am very proud that the National Industrial Symbiosis Programme (NISP) is based in my constituency and I am even more delighted to welcome a delegation from China who are learning from the work we are doing in this country.

NISP is a free business opportunity programme that develops mutually profitable links between its member companies so that under-used resources such as energy, water and/or materials from one are recovered, reprocessed and then re-used by others.

Through NISP we have shown that industrial symbiosis is an effective means of reducing the carbon footprint of industrial development and demonstrates how that economic growth can be decoupled from environmental degradation.

It is extremely exciting that a scheme created in Birmingham could soon be helping to shape the future of the world’s largest industrial park.
