How can I help you?

Help is available ...
As your MP I will investigate problems you may be experiencing with either central or local government or with public agencies. Some of the more common problem areas are listed below. The list is not exhaustive. I have included links to relevant organisations where they have a website. This may give you the information or help that you need.

Problems with Council services should initially be taken up with one of your local three local councillors - click here to see a list of Birmingham City Councillors.

But...

Unfortunately I am only able to take up issues on behalf of people who live or (exceptionally) work in the Selly Oak Parliamentary constituency. To check that I am your MP (or to find out who is, if it is not me) click here to use the Parliamentary 'constituency locata'
.

Common problem areas ...

benefits
child support agency
council tax
DVLA
employment services
health
housing
immigration, nationality and passports
inland revenue - tax
pensions
planning
police
post office services

What I will do...
I will contact organisations on your behalf and ensure that your side of a case is clearly presented and understood. I will make sure that you understand the system you are involved with. I will clarify the rules and explain any aspect of a decision you may not understand. I cannot obtain preferential treatment for you or achieve results that are outside the relevant laws or rules.

If necessary, I will take up your case with a government minister or refer a complaint to the Local Government or Parliamentary Ombudsman. Click here to be taken to the site for Ombudsman service.

This brief note does not cover all of the circumstances in which I may be able to help. The key message is that I am here to help all constituents. Contact me to discuss any issue you may wish to raise. Click here to see the contacts page, which includes a link giving details of my advice bureaux.

Other help
There may be other sources of help available on the Web, such as the Citizen's Advice Bureau site and the Community Legal Service website, detailed below. I would be happy to include any other organsations who feel that they may useful to constituents. Needless to say I cannot be responsible for the contents of any exterior web site.
