I will be supporting the Selly Oak Community Fair 18 October 2003, organised by the Birmingham Community Empowerment Network - the press release below gives more details - I hope as many local people as possible will be able to attend...

ALL THE FUN OF THE FAIR

Be involved in SELLY OAK COMMUNITY FAIR

Plans have been finalised for Selly Oak’s first Community Fair. An event that will give local community groups from Bournville, Kings Norton, Moseley and Selly Oak Wards an opportunity to share with others the good news about their work.

Local groups will host stalls that will give a taste of what they are up to in the constituency.  Kings Norton FM will be supporting the event by providing a showcase for the young talent of the area.   There’ll be information on how to access funding for your group and a prize draw.  In the morning experienced facilitators will be running workshops on active citizenship, and working with the media.  Afternoon workshops will be on good practice with young people and the Selly Oak Community & Neighbourhood Network.

This promises to be a lively and interesting day, with plenty of opportunities to find out what the people of Selly Oak are doing to make life better for one another, and how you could play your part by getting involved.

The date set for the event is Saturday 18th October. The venue is Cotteridge Church on the Pershore Road. Doors will open from 10.30 a.m. until 3.00 p.m. And entry is free.

So come along and have a look at what is happening in your area. People will be able to sign up for the workshops on the day.  Groups interested in having a stall for the day should contact Sarah Nicholson on 678 8840 or sarah@bcen.net for a booking form. Book early to avoid disappointment.
